Jim Hromas serves as the Director of International Education and Outreach (IE&O) and the School of International Studies (SIS) at Oklahoma State University. As director of the School of International Studies his responsibilities include the SIS Graduate Program, Study Abroad, International Outreach, the English Language Institute, and Global Contacts. Additional responsibilities as the director of IE&O include supporting outreach and public service programs statewide, nationally and internationally through the Wes Watkins Center, assisting college outreach units and coordinating OSU Independent Study.

Furthering the advancement of OSU and Stillwater, Dr. Hromas has delivered projects and programming in Brazil, Canada, Ethiopia, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates; has visited the Union of Burma, Columbia, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Panama, Scotland and Spain; and has sponsored meetings with groups and individuals from those countries and Africa, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam. He has published articles on service marketing and distance learning and has been a presenter at various professional development meetings.

Dr. Hromas has also provided support to OSU and Stillwater by serving on several boards of directors including: Sister Cities International; University Continuing Education Association; Stillwater Chamber of Commerce; the Stillwater Industrial Foundation; Leadership Oklahoma; Leadership Stillwater; Stillwater Convention and Visitors Bureau and several private firms. He is also a member of the Frontier Rotary Club.

Most notable of Dr. Hromas’s achievements and support of Stillwater is his consistent role as a catalyst for growth and development of Stillwater and OSU. Dr. Hromas was a founding board member of Leadership Stillwater and Leadership Oklahoma; developed the concept proposal for the OSU School of International Studies; developed the OSU-Mexico Liaison Office; and implemented the Global Briefing speaker series in response to the attacks on 9/11.

Maria G. Fabregas has been working in Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP), Mexico since 1984; she was a part-time professor, full-time professor, and Director of the Animal Science School until 1992. Then Lupita was in charge of the Financial Support Department in UPAEP for 10 years, working with students with a great economical need. She contributed to found the UPAEP scholarship Foundation (FEMSAC). During 2002 and 2003, she worked part-time for both the Institute of Issue Management and Alternative Dispute Resolution at Oklahoma State University, developing projects for the Hispanic population as well as working part-time for UPAEP with various projects in cultural and academic exchange programs between UPAEP and Oklahoma State University. Lupita has participated in projects involving the facilitation of the State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and in Hispanic translations for the Payne County Health Department and the Stillwater Police Department in Stillwater, Oklahoma. During 2005 and part of 2006 Lupita is in coordinator of the Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla Foundation in Oklahoma State University. UPAEP Foundation mission is to be the primary development and fundraising arm for the Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla, Puebla, Mexico and to contribute to the advancement of higher education in developing countries. Since August 2007 Lupita is Director of the UPAEP Liaison office in the United States housing by Oklahoma State University Wes Watkins Center. Her main responsibilities are develop academic relationships between UPAEP and public and private institutions in the United States, write proposals to private, public and non-profit agencies, develop relationships between U.S. and Mexican entities, write agreements and strategic alliances between UPAEP and public and private organizations and develop exchange programs between UPAEP students, professors, and staff members and American institutions. Lupita has completed the classes required for the PhD program in Agriculture Education at Oklahoma State University. She is planning to take her comprehensive exams in August 2008 and finishing the program by 2009. Lupita interest research areas are Diversity and Intercultural Sensitivity.

Prior to becoming Director of the English Language Institute in l989, Kay Keys served as Assistant Director and taught for a number of years in the program. With the University since 1970 and tenured in the Foreign Language Department, she has also taught Spanish and served from 1970 to 1974 as the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs with responsibilities for freshman orientation, student discipline and women's programming. Under her leadership, the Institute was accepted for and has maintained membership in the prestigious UCIEP consortium. From 1995 to 2000, the Institute served as headquarters of this national consortium, and she served as Central Office Coordinator. She was a founding member of the Oklahoma affiliate of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (OKTESOL), serving as Liaison to the international TESOL as well as President of OKTESOL. In addition, she was elected to a three-year term as the representative of Administrators and Teachers of English as a Second Language (ATESL) to NAFSA's Committee on Ethical Practice. She holds membership in Phi Beta Delta, an honor society for international scholars and is currently serving as Treasurer. Ms. Keys holds a B.S. in Education and an M.A. in Foreign Language from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She has studied in Mexico and traveled extensively in Latin America and Asia. As ELI Director, she has authored proposals that culminated in contracts totaling well in excess of $1,000,000. In addition, she was a chief negotiator for an ongoing multimillion-dollar university project in Japan.

Richard Kirby received a B.A. in Teaching Spanish from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, in 1983 and an M.A. in Education (TESL) from Oral Roberts University in 1987. He taught ESL at Tadulako University and Hasanuddin University in Indonesia from 1988 to 1991. He began teaching at OSU in June 1991 when he joined the faculty of the English Language Institute, Kyoto. In 1994, he transitioned to the English Language Institute. He presented at the 1997 OKTESOL conference on the topic: Being Sensitive to Our Students’ Special Needs.

Geraldine Auel is the Study Abroad Coordinator at OSU. The Study Abroad Office is a unit of the School of International Studies in International Education and Outreach (IEO). The office is the primary location for information and assistance on study, work and volunteer options abroad through OSU and is responsible for developing and coordinating the reciprocal exchange program that enables OSU students to enroll at OSU and pursue studies abroad. She earned her B.A. at Southern Oregon College and her M.A. in French Literature at Washington State University. Before coming to OSU, she was a program specialist for the Institute of International Education in San Francisco. Previously, she coordinated a study abroad program in Avignon, France, for a consortium of Northwest universities and was the Study Abroad adviser at Oregon State University. She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in a TEFL program in Tunis, Tunisia. She retains memberships in the National Peace Corps Association and NAFSA: Association of International Educators. She is a founding member and current president of the International Friendship Committee of Stillwater.

Kat has a Master of Science degree in International Studies from the School of International Studies at Oklahoma State University. A native of the Czech Republic, she brings to the Study Abroad/NSE Office her own international experience as a high school exchange student in Enid, Oklahoma, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Kat has a background not only in academia as a faculty assistant and graduate assistant, but also in business as a human resource generalist. During Summer 2007, she interned as a campaign advisor to the permanent mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations in New York.
